In-Car Driving Test

Test Overview

You may take the in-car (practical) driving test once you have passed your theory test.
It involves driving a car with an examiner and following instructions for around 40 minutes in most cases.

Stages

Your eyesight will first be tested. You must be able to read a number plate from 20 metres away.
You will then be asked to explain how you will do some driving or vehicle related activity, and to demonstrate how you will do another activity. Then, you will be assessed on your driving skills in different conditions, and how well you know and apply the Highway Code.

Scoring

You will receive negative points for every minor mistake you make. If you have made more than 15 minor mistakes, you will fail.
If you make a serious or dangerous mistake, you will immediately fail the test.
